The Process

Booking and vision

We will go into as much detail as possible on bringing your painting to life. Once we have agreed a way forward and timings, I will send you a commission agreement and price and request a 10% deposit to secure your slot.

I work from life where possible, or from photos and will come up with some composition sketches that we can agree on before I proceed.

Complete the painting

Once we have agreed a composition and we are both happy with how to proceed I will being the painting. I will send you progress photos and make sure you are happy at each stage.

Finish and sign-off

I will send photos in a variety of different contexts and light so you have a good idea of the what the finished painting will look like and can make any final tweaks needed. Once you are happy the final instalment will be due.

Framing

I either offer a framing service myself or will find a suitable framer to out-source depending on what style you have in mind. I can help recommend appropriate framing choices if you are unsure.

Museum quality materials

I use museum quality materials and take appropriate steps to ensure your painting will be conservationally sound for decades to come. Each painting is finished with a retouching varnish to protect the piece. You can read more about caring for your artwork here.

Timing and prices

Timings will vary depending on the scale and subject matter or if there is a hard deadline. Oil paintings take a couple of weeks to dry enough to be varnished before delivery, so I generally need at least a month to complete an artwork. Usually it is around a two-month lead in time.

There are many factors that come in to the pricing of a commission, for example size, framing options and whether travel is necessary. Please contact me below if you would like to discuss and I can give you an idea of price.

Do you have an idea you'd like to discuss?

I'd be happy to talk over email or phone to see if I can help bring it to life. There is no obligation following an initial discussion.
